Drama can support children's learning and development through:

  • providing real purpose and motivation when developing skills across a broad and balanced curriculum

  • developing good communication, higher order thinking and transference of knowledge

  • encouraging reflection and collaboration when pupils work in different ways

  • evoking emotion and empathy, developing a respect for one’s own and others’ human rights

  • questioning one’s own personal values and beliefs whilst listening to and respecting shared values and beliefs from others

  • developing skills of perseverance and problem-solving through the contexts, tasks and expectations

  • fostering key attitudes and behaviours to make children lifelong learners

  • engaging children in meaningful exploration of Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural Education (SMSC)
